went to Brick Lane in London yesterday (Sunday) and had lunch in one of the food markets. About 20 different cuisines to choose from. Most were a bit fusion (or confusion) and obviously fed those with a less sophisticated palette.
Nearly went for the Indian chana, but since finding (and using) kala chana, I find the normal chickpeas a bit like small gob stoppers!
So went for the Burmese (or whatever that ****** regime call themselves now!). Had chicken in a very yellow sauce, with chillies (which I thought was mild but SIL thought was very hot!) and noodles. Flavour was very disappointing, I don't add too much spice these days, but I couldn't detect any spice! Very bland, very disappointing.
Cooked a tagine (chicken, olives and preserved lemons, with sept legumes and couscous))for tea tonight, back to flavour!
Tomorrow, hopefully, I'll cook and photograph rogan josh, Pandit style (no onions or garlic, Sid) if my battery will charge. Emptied it today shooting pics of a Kestrel feasting on a mouse in the garden. 80 frames to get three half good shots!
..and we will like you to share the Kashmiri Roghan Josh recipe/pictures with us please Lapis.
I went to Bricklane for the first time in September and tasted lots of the various food on offer. I agree the flavours did not match the appearance on lots of the stalls, though the aroma when entering the food halls was amazing. We had not long had breakfast so did not have a complete meal from anyone of them. However, their friendliness towards us just having samples was a breath of fresh air, thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
