what they never say is that curcumin, the yellow colouring in turmeric, is made of two molecules of vanillin (the main flavour compound in vanilla), in fact, if you extract the curcumin out of turmeric by genltly heating it in vegetable oil, and leave it for a day or two, it vaguely smells and tastes of vanilla! Another reason to extract those flavours into oil!
