I made the Chicken Biryani (from this site) last night... another excellent recipe..
Had to make a few subsitutions though.. didn't have any saffron so used haldi in water (worked just as well in colouring)
and don't have (and wasn't going to buy) any orange food colouring so to get another colour in there I improvised and used tiny spashes of beetroot juice!

If you have some rose water or essence, you can use a bit of that in place of saffron.
