This powder can be used for making both sambhar and rasam. Also see Sambhar Powder 1, Sambhar and Rasam. Use one teaspoon of the powder to make sambhar for 4 people.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups coriander seeds or dhania seeds

  • 2 cups red chillies

  • 1/4 cup pepper corns or kali mirch

  • 1/4 cup cumin seeds or jeera

  • 1/2 cup Bengal gram dal (channa dal)

  • 1 big bunch curry leaves (not bay leaves)

  • 2 tsp. turmeric powder

Instructions

  1. Dry roast all the ingredients in wok on low heat, separately, except turmeric, until they give out a strong ‘roast’ aroma.

  2. Cool and grind all the ingredients to a fine powder.

  3. Store in an air tight jar.

Notes

  • This mix will last for quite a few months in your cupboard.
