Pudina ka Raita 4

This very easy to make dish is often served in Indian restaurants in UK with Tandoori Chicken 1, 2, 3, 4. It can also be served with Green Banana Kebabs, Meat Kebabs, Shami Kebab, Soya Kebab, Pakoras-Vegetable Fritters 1, Pakoras-Vegetable Fritters 2, Paneer Pakoras, Popodoms and other starters.

When my girls were living at home, they preferred this with their Roast Leg of Lamb, to the usual mint sauce.

Mint Raita (Yoghurt) - 1 made at home is different than this one, and more refreshing in my opinion.

Ingredients

  • 500 ml. fresh, creamy natural yoghurt or dahi

  • 2-3 tsp. English mint sauce (amount depends on how minty you like it).

  • Salt to taste

  • 1/2 tsp. chilli powder/black pepper (optional)

  • A pinch of red food colour (very optional, added by only some restaurants)

  • You can add other things like Garam Masala or or Curry Powder or Chat Masala or Tandoor

Instructions

  1. Beat yoghurt lightly

  2. Add all other ingredients and stir well.

  3. Adjust seasoning to taste.

  4. Serve chilled.

Notes

  • You can add finely chopped red onions/cucumbers/green chillies.

  • Some restaurants add orange colouring or even a little of ready-made tandoori paste to it. Mint sauce already has green colour in it and I don't like too many additives in my food, if I can help it. So I keep it simple.
